DYNSIM Power

An integrated suite of software components that provides the ability to build, run, modify, and control a simulation through our SIM4ME/DSS user interface. DYNSIM Power uses libraries of dynamic simulation engineering unit operations to construct high-fidelity engineering dynamic simulation models for the power, pulp&paper and mining industries. DYNSIM Power features operator training and engineering analysis capabilities as standard such as FREEZE, RUN, PAUSE and SAVE/RESTORE initial conditions.

Engineering models can run standalone or be coupled to SimSci-Esscor's Distributed Control System solutions to form complete plant training or control validation simulator.

Fundamental Features

Physical, Empirical, Simple, and Transfer Function Modeling

DYNSIM Power features a comprehensive set of unit operation model libraries. Additional modeling flexibility is available through mathematical transfer functions and user-defined equations. Users can develop their own algorithms or extend SimSci-Esscor's model algorithms in C++, C, or Fortran programming languages.

Operator Training Environment

DYNSIM Power incorporates various operator training features such as:

  • Initial Conditions (IC) – A snapshot of the current status of the simulation, Save IC captures the simulation values, while Restore IC resets the simulation to the previously saved values.
  • Simulation Speed - The Simulation Speed feature lets you increase or decrease the rate at which simulation proceeds compared to real-time.
  • Malfunctions - Equipment malfunctions are incorporated into the simulation to enhance your training program. Valve failures, breaker trips, and pump/fan trips are just a few of the malfunctions that can be instigated.

Engineering Tools

DYNSIM Power has numerous additional features that enhance the engineering capabilities of the simulation environment. Information on the process model and its values can be quickly accessed through the use of the Object Editor/Viewer (OEV).

The OEV allows for modification of the process parameters which can be incorporated quickly into a running model.

DCS Interface

DYNSIM Power may be interfaced with a variety of Distributed Control Systems. SimSci-Esscor has developed control system representations for many control systems vendors, including:

  • Foxboro I/A Series
  • Bailey (Symphony, net90, Infi90)
  • ABB (Industrial IT, Procontrol, Turbtrol)
  • Emerson (DeltaV and Ovation)
  • Honeywell (TDC3000)
  • Yokogawa (Centrum CS3000)

SimSci-Esscor has also developed emulations for the following programmable logic controllers (PLC):

  • Triconex TMR and Trident
  • Allen Bradley PLC5
  • General Electric Mark V PLC
  • Modicon PLC
  • Woodward Governor PLC

Model Categories

The DYNSIM Power model libraries are organized into four main categories:

  • Fundamental, Physical, Mathematical and Simple Models - contain libraries for the electrical grid, a network solver, simple models, utility models, as well as transfer functions.
  • Extended Physical Models - contain libraries that simulate condensing networks, drum boiler, flash tanks, furnaces, feedwater chemistry, heat exchangers, mechanical couplings, once-through boilers, and steam turbines.
  • Special Applications - contain libraries that simulate various pulp and paper as well as soda ash processes.
  • Processing Applications - contain libraries that simulate various milling and mining processes.
  • Fluid Properties - provide data for fluid thermodynamic property calculations made in all of the DYNSIM-Power libraries.

DYNSIM Power is part of the SIM4ME/DSS environment, therefoe, the above models maybe incorporated into DYNSIM process models to create a powerful, integrated process/power simulator that is unrivalled in the simulator industries today.
